Kristen H. Indahl, HopeSpring Communications

Based at the Jersey Shore, I’m a freelance health writer, editor, and communications/marketing strategist. My passion for health was first inspired by my 10th grade biology teacher, and I’ve applied that interest to various aspects of my work ever since. In what seems like no time, I now have more than 25 years of experience in health communications.

Here are a few of the stops along my journey:

  • Served as the sole on-site marketing manager for Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a teaching hospital housing cardiac surgery, a trauma center, and a NICU. Add to that 24/7 on-call coverage, and you may understand why I say this role prepared me well for the demands of parenthood.
  • Managed publications and website strategy for Somerset Medical Center (now RWJ Somerset), coordinating a website renovation that earned eight industry awards.
  • Saw firsthand the lifesaving impact of organ donation while managing professional membership activities for physicians, nurses, social workers, and dietitians at the National Kidney Foundation.
  • Rubbed elbows with some of New York’s finest – including mayors, hospital presidents, and the physician who cured polio – at The New York Academy of Medicine, while facilitating communications directly for the president.
  • Served as a ghost writer for a world-renowned pediatric endocrinologist at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center (now NewYork-Presbyterian).
  • Started my health writing and PR career at Edelman Medical Communications based right in Times Square, a far cry from my humble beginnings in a small town in upstate New York.
  • Earned a B.S. in Biology from Villanova University, now the 2016 and 2018 Men's Basketball National Champs (not to mention 1985). Go Cats!
